A dream imagined lives...

What is worth saying...
I’m sitting in an auditorium listening, listening, listening…or at least trying to listen to discussions about branding, design, shaping messages,media, linking images to music, etc, etc. I know there is important stuff here that I need to know, or at least I should care about knowing if I want to get our music out to more people but there is that part of me that cringes back from it....

We are reaching for…
Sometimes it seems that is what life is, a constant reaching for something, something other than ourselves. Reaching for another person, reaching for an object, reaching for a place or reaching for a time when we were different – younger, older, wiser, more innocent…happier. i wonder...

Last night in Sydney after a week of family & friends catch ups, song summit sessions and lazy Sydney sightseeing…heading back to briz-Vegas with a new song, a heap of lyrics and more sleep than I’ve had in quite some time…a very satisfying trip all round!
looking forward to a rehearsal ahead of our set at wilston winter magic fair on sunday too…

hitting the wall...
once again edging toward that middle of the night zone where the ordinary stuff of the day with hindsight starts to warp at the periphery…at least that’s how it feels…
tonight we had our first rehearsal since finishing recording back in april, and found ourselves mightily relieved that the music was still there poised and waiting…and in reasonable shape…all set for...

slow days drag in a weary place...
…and the place that exists between recording sessions is wearying indeed! it’s like the difference between sitting in front of an air conditioner and standing on a cliff top overlooking the ocean with a westerly blowing…yes, it’s tolerable but oh so stale compared to that wild wind…
the weight of the keys pressing up pressing down and breath is laboured and thoughts...
and so day 1 ends...
we’ve got the bones of three tracks down. matt taylor is awesome to work with. jen horn is in tomorrow and she has the backing for her two.
there’s a lovely gretsch at blackbox (which is now renamed black bob’s) for outlaw.

tomorrow morning I collect the master copy of our ‘live at the zoo’ ep. exciting? oh yes! but…take a deep breath, centre myself, stay focused…tomorrow we also start recording our second ep at blackbox studios with matt taylor. super exciting, right? absolutely!! we have some wonderful musicians coming in...

keeping everything in the air...
throw one, while it’s still in the air throw another, as you catch the first throw a third…and then just keep it all flowing…

so, things are starting to speed up - our live recording from The Zoo gig has been handed over to Matt Taylor and is being mixed this week…another step closer to having an EP - check!

laugh, take a deep breath and...
The Zoo was fantastic. Well, actually, it was not just The Zoo itself but the line up of bands on Saturday that made the night truly great!
It started off with Stars of Thursday, three lovely guys with a great roots/reggae style sound. Their groove was like that warm day on the beach you remember where the sun’s not too hot, the breeze is just the right amount of cool, the sky bluer than...

we had a good rehearsal tonight, despite me feeling and playing like death warmed up after another few nights of not nearly enough sleep - you could say it’s very rock’n’roll to be sleep deprived but I don’t think I can claim that this time.

We’ve just been asked to headline a gig…at The Zoo…on Saturday, 25 February.
Now that date may ring a bell for you, I believe there is some small music event on that day at the RNA - um, Sinewave? Soundtsunami? Soundwave, maybe? ;)

when the unexpected happens...
Do you know that feeling? When the path you had imagined you were on suddenly morphs under your feet? Suddenly instead of that slow steady trudge to the known you find that you are sprinting gloriously into mystery…and it is exciting, exhilerating and just a little unsettling.
