A dream imagined lives...
I do not have any tattoos, no ink markings of birds, beasts or hieroglyphs anchored to my flesh.  There are plenty of tattoos I admire, true art works that will still have a beauty and meaning when the youth has seeped from the skin that holds them.  A delicate wren perches on a twig that springs from my friend’s shoulder, a woman clothed in rich blues and greens glimpsed peeking out from...

whoosh...
…and it went by.  Yep, that was 2012 (almost) and what an amazing year it’s been!  Recording and launching our debut EP, playing with lots of lovely peeps (new friends and old - we love them all!) in some of our favourite Brizzy venues (yes, we’re looking at you Old Museum, The Zoo, Ric’s Bar, Black Bear Lodge, Dowse Bar, The End, Room 60 and more) and doing our first tour outside Brisbane to...

What is worth saying...
I’m sitting in an auditorium listening, listening, listening…or at least trying to listen to discussions about branding, design, shaping messages, media, linking images to music, etc, etc. I know there is important stuff here that I need to know, or at least I should care about knowing if I want to get our music out to more people but there is that part of me that cringes back from it....

always reaching...
We are reaching for… Sometimes it seems that is what life is, a constant reaching for something, something other than ourselves.  Reaching for another person, reaching for an object, reaching for a place or reaching for a time when we were different – younger, older, wiser, more innocent…happier.  Reaching away from sorrow, pain, anger, frustration and yes, away from happiness too sometimes. Today...

i wonder...
there are moments when suddenly you feel like you’re in a film…you know the ones, when the light is so bright and diffused that everything outside of your immediate surroundings seems a blur of motion but at the same time everything in the bubble surrounding you is in ultra-sharp focus…time seems to run at different speeds – slowing to a crawl to let you marvel at the roar of sound, racing so fast...

Eleven sleeps to go...
Eleven sleeps to go… …not that I’m counting, right? I mean, it’s not as if the last twelve months has all been building to this night or anything, right? Um, well, maybe… But honestly, if you had asked me twelve months ago if this was what was going to happen I would have thought you had spent either too much time in the sun or with the bottle, possibly both.  Even six months ago, it was just a...

adrift in the cello sea...
it’s 2am…and yes, i’m awake again…i don’t want to be, believe me, but there is so much to do, to think about, to organise and to listen to… because i am listening, incessantly, to the mix of our ep and watching the ticking over of files as the songs are transferred to the mastering engineer, rick o’neill.  why do i keep listening? well, in part because i...

the perils of recording...
Ah yes, here it is again. That oh so familiar state of not sleeping. Mind still churning over the day, endlessly it seems…and why? Well, this time round I’m going to blame it on recording, specifically live recording… Sometime ago someone suggested to me that thewhiskeyarchive should look into the live @ the train station recording sessions that BeauFM run. What is BeauFM, you...

...and next up
Last night in Sydney after a week of family & friends catch ups, song summit sessions and lazy Sydney sightseeing…heading back to briz-Vegas with a new song, a heap of lyrics and more sleep than I’ve had in quite some time…a very satisfying trip all round! looking forward to a rehearsal ahead of our set at wilston winter magic fair on sunday too… life is goooood :)

hitting the wall...
once again edging toward that middle of the night zone where the ordinary stuff of the day with hindsight starts to warp at the periphery…at least that’s how it feels… tonight we had our first rehearsal since finishing recording back in april, and found ourselves mightily relieved that the music was still there poised and waiting…and in reasonable shape…all set for...

slow days drag in a weary place...
…and the place that exists between recording sessions is wearying indeed!  it’s like the difference between sitting in front of an air conditioner and standing on a cliff top overlooking the ocean with a westerly blowing…yes, it’s tolerable but oh so stale compared to that wild wind… the weight of the keys pressing up pressing down and breath is laboured and thoughts...

sleep vs sleeplessness: and the winner is...
so many things are buzzing around in my head at the moment… tomorrow morning I collect the master copy of our ‘live at the zoo’ ep.  exciting? oh yes!  but…take a deep breath, centre myself, stay focused…tomorrow we also start recording our second ep at blackbox studios with matt taylor. super exciting, right? absolutely!! we have some wonderful musicians coming in...

keeping everything in the air...
throw one, while it’s still in the air throw another, as you catch the first throw a third…and then just keep it all flowing… that’s the theory, isn’t it? so, things are starting to speed up - our live recording from The Zoo gig has been handed over to Matt Taylor and is being mixed this week…another step closer to having an EP - check! we now have our own...

ducks on a pond...
…that’s kind of what it has felt like over the last couple of weeks since we played at The Zoo…you know, calm and serene on top, furiously paddling underneath…if duck’s could pant like sprinters - yep, there would be panting happening…hmm, do duck’s pant? First and foremost, we went through the recording that the wonderful Muz took off the desk for us at...

laugh, take a deep breath and...
The Zoo was fantastic.  Well, actually, it was not just The Zoo itself but the line up of bands on Saturday that made the night truly great! It started off with Stars of Thursday, three lovely guys with a great roots/reggae style sound.  Their groove was like that warm day on the beach you remember where the sun’s not too hot, the breeze is just the right amount of cool, the sky bluer than...

12:25am...
…and I’m awake because… we had a good rehearsal tonight, despite me feeling and playing like death warmed up  after another few nights of not nearly enough sleep - you could say it’s very rock’n’roll to be sleep deprived but I don’t think I can claim that this time. And so I’m awake because… we went through our set for Saturday night, timed...

the difference between sprinting and flying is...
Did I say we were sprinting?  Let me re-phrase that… We’ve just been asked to headline a gig…at The Zoo…on Saturday, 25 February. Now that date may ring a bell for you, I believe there is some small music event on that day at the RNA - um, Sinewave? Soundtsunami? Soundwave, maybe? ;) So gathering a crowd, may be a little problematic… or not, after all how many...

when the unexpected happens...
Do you know that feeling? When the path you had imagined you were on suddenly morphs under your feet?  Suddenly instead of that slow steady trudge to the known you find that you are sprinting gloriously into mystery…and it is exciting, exhilerating and just a little unsettling. That was the feeling I had on Sunday night.  We took to the stage for Heat 8 of the Exposed#3 band competition at...
